Dolor Has Taken Over My Life

I’ve written about it before, but the more I think about this book series, the more I seriously love it. Rick Florino is the architect of one of the most intriguing, horrifying, memorable, and powerful worlds that I’ve ever allowed myself to fall into with his brand new novel DOLOR: Books I-V. This collection features the first five books of “Dolor”. Dolor is a town you wouldn’t want to visit. It’s been burned to the ground, and a lone FBI agent is sent to check it out. He finds one house standing in the town, while everything else is ravaged. In the house, there are ten small diaries. Each diary is the diary of someone who died in the town on the day that they died. This collection contains the first five diaries. “Decker” diary four is utterly demented, but it’s my favorite. However, I also love the first diary “Lila” because of the possessed Teddy Bear and the relationship between the father Caleb and Lila. The story reminds me of Stephen King and Dean Koontz but there’s a new, fun, and fresh rock ‘n’ roll twist. It’s like “Twin Peaks” a little bit, yet it’s in a category of its own. You have to read it to truly understand. Plus, the author is the cutest guy I’ve ever seen. He’s only 26 too grrr…

The Big Four Rage On Through Indio

I’ve been a lifelong Metallica fan, and believe it or not I never had the pleasure of seeing them live. My older brother introduced me to them when I was very young and their CDS “Ride the Lightning”, “Master of Puppets”, and “The Black Album” have been the soundtrack of my life. Even though I’m a total house music freak now, I still love them. So, I got the opportunity to see Metallica in all of their live and loud glory at The Big Four in Indio, California yesterday. They were beyond mind blowing. They played all of my favorite songs “Sad But True”, “Fade to Black”, “Master of Puppets”, “Am I Evil?”, and “Enter Sandman.” Everything sounded so powerful live. They’re amazing, and I was completely stunned at how moved I was. I even got to go hang backstage, but did not get to meet singer James Hetfield—that just means I’ll have to see them again!

Hyro Da Hero Will Save Hip Hop

It has been a long time since someone in rap truly moved me. I’ve been so transfixed by house and electronic music that my iPod rarely switches from those club jams I love so much to something outside of the genre. However, I’ve discovered the best rapper that I’ve heard in over a decade. His name is Hyro Da Hero. He’s originally from Houston, but he lives in Los Angeles now. His debut album, “Birth, School, Work, Death” sounds like Rage Against the Machine with 2pac singing instead of Zack De La Rocha. Every song explodes with guitars, drums, and bass instead of simple samples. My favorites are the fiery opener “Grudge” which calls out Lil Wayne and the trippy industrial closer “System Overload.” He just did a sold out tour of the UK, and he’s going to take over America next. Get on this now before he’s bigger than Kanye West…

Blogging for Apples

Okay, so I really do love writing this blog, but I only want to write after I’ve compiled numerous significant experiences, can appropriately process them, and then write about them in a compelling and intriguing manner. The point that I’m at now is my life is whizzing by at lightspeed and it’s exhausting, but it’s so much fun and I really feel like I’m on an incredible path that will shape not only my career but my happiness as well. Along the way, I’ve met some incredible new people and experienced some amazing events, concerts, movies, and shows. Now that I’ve got a slew of moment to catalog, I can give everything its proper due with this array of blog entries. Enjoy…

Always Wanted to Run a Club? Get Tiësto’s “ClubWorld” from Tapulous

Okay, so hanging out at your favorite nightclub and dancing the night away to “Somewhere” and “Move For Me” is awesome. We all know that! However, there’s nothing better than actually running your own nightclub. Tapulous’s new iPhone and iPad app “ClubWorld” let’s you do just that, while listening to Tiësto, of course. With a soundtrack of “Club Life Vol. 1, Las Vegas”, users can pick and choose every element of their club, basically this is “The Sims” for clubgoers. You can set up your nightspot however you like and success is measured by how bumpin’ the dance floor is. The music is transcendent as Tiësto is behind the decks and the game is completely and utterly addictive. This is a new must-have app because let’s face it we can’t be at Drai’s every night—though that would be fun.

Sometimes Music Is Just Better Live

I am not into Slayer. I think they are mediocre at best. To me, every song sounds the same. However, I saw them play before Metallica at “The Big Four” in Indio, CA, and they were quite good. I dug how fast and tight they played, and I enjoyed that they got the crowd rev’ed up. I couldn’t name one song but I had fun watching them. I’m not going to buy one of their CDs anytime soon, but it was a good show. So, the moral of this story, is always give a band a chance live.

Olivia Sahagun Photography

Olivia Sahagun infuses a tangible warmth into each and every photo she takes. It’s as if her shutter actually captures emotions. Her photos are vibrant and entrancing. There’s a simplicity to her elegance which makes for stunning portraits with unique lighting that highlights every bit of beauty in a subject’s visage. She’s also able to incorporate landscapes gorgeously. These photos will make you happy.

Incogdealo Is The Way to Go

Alright, everyone loves coupons. However, you never want to seem like a “coupon shopper” because it just feels a little, well, low rent. Incogdealo is the brilliant solution to that conundrum. Once you sign up for the web site you receive all of these amazing money-saving offers at local Orange County restaurants, but you never have to show a coupon. Rather, it emails you a code to write at the bottom of your check when you get it and the server automatically knows what to discount. You simply write the code “in cognito” and you get your discount without seeming cheap. I can’t really think of anything better. Sign up now. It’s more than worth it with the money you’ll save and how cool you’ll feel.

“Rain” Over Me

I had the pleasure of seeing the last night  of“Rain” at The Pantages Theater in Hollywood Sunday night, and it was so great! I’m not the world’s biggest Beatles aficionado and still I knew every song. They replicate the song’s maintaining their integrity while infusing a new modern panache. What was most incredible was how much the performers resembled the original Beatles. It’s a show not to be missed by any and all music fans.

Hoarding Should be Illegal

I recently cleaned an apartment that had over 1,000 DVDs and 2,000 CDs lying around the living room. Apparently, the denizen can’t throw anything that he gets away. I don’t understand why people keep stuff for so long! And just because someone gave you something doesn’t mean you have to keep it forever! Good Lord, tidy up and stop hoarding!

Boston Terriers

There was a small chocolate Boston Terrier at Moondoggies in Rancho Cucamonga in the mall that I used to work at. The instant that I saw this little angel, I fell head over heels in love with her. It wasn’t the right time for me to get a puppy when I first met her, but now it is. I may not get her, but I’m going to get another tiny Boston Terrier and name her Venus after Venus in the “Crank” movies, and we’re going to live so happily ever after in our new apartment.

Krystle Lina Photography

Okay, Krystle’s photos are so sexy, edgy, and bold that she should be snapping for “True Blood”. Her aesthetic could draw blood it’s so sharp, and she uses light to capture the darkness in her subjects. She doesn’t take photos; she creates vignettes into the psyche right to our most carnal primal desires. These are photos you won’t forget and Krystle Lina is a name to remember.

Benihana Is Always Good Especially If You Had A Bad Day

Monday was not good for a myriad of reasons. So what did I do to cure my case of the Mondays? I made a reservation at the Benihana of Beverly Hills on La Cienega and I enjoyed some spicy hibachi chicken, soup, salad, and a nice cold margarita. No matter where you go Benihana is consistently awesome. However, the Beverly Hills location will always have a special place in my heart as will that Spicy Hibachi Chicken.

I Am Queen Zombie Smasher, Hear Me Roar

My latest and greatest obsession is the iPad edition of “Call of Duty: World at War – Zombie Edition”. Now, I’ve gotten so deft at playing this game, I can pass at least 20 levels and kill over 300 zombies with almost half of my kills being “headshots”. It’s tense, it’s terse, and it’s tough—just the way I like my video games. You can hear zombies creep up behind you, bellowing these guttural growls and if you don’t turn in time to blow their heads off you’re dead meat—literally. There are two maps. One is a war-torn bunker and the other is what appears to be a dilapidated mental hospital. I prove to be the “Queen Zombie Smasher” on both, and I feel like I’m tougher than Rick on “The Walking Dead.” I need to reload my trench gun right now.

I’m Moving, YAY!

So after an arduous and crazy month long search I’ve found the right apartment for myself and my soon-to-be most awesome puppy in the world Venus! It’s in the Hollywood Hills right by Runyon Canyon, and it’s huge! It’s about 800 square feet, it has a big balcony, and a pool, and it’s super clean. The building itself looks like an old ‘60s James Bond type of place, and I love it. I’m dropping off an application and the fee today. Here’s to the next step!

“Insidious” Is Still Haunting Me!

I want to see it again. I really want to see it badly especially because now all of my friends are talking about it, and I saw it at a screening before it came out a long time ago. However, at the same time, I’m terrified to see it again. The dreams that I had after seeing it still haunt me, and I don’t know if I can handle it, but I’m going to muster up the courage to get my ticket to go see it again. Pray, I make it out okay.

The Buzz Lightyear Ride At Disneyland

I’ve gotten so good at any kinds of video games involving shooting or guns that it’s become a bit of an addiction. However, the fact that I’ve logged so much time behind the gun has made me quite proficient at killing any of my digital foes. That brings me to the Buzz Lightyear ride at Disneyland which is my new favorite ride. Visitors ride around in a little teacup-style spaceship that can be spun with a joystick while they blast away at space villains. It’s so much fun! You’re ranked as well based on how many aliens you blast, and now I’m officially a space ranger! Take that!

Hyraluronic Acid

My face was killing me. I don’t know what happened, but I found a natural and very healthy solution in a tiny bottle at The Vitamin Shoppe. It’s called Hyraluronic Acid and it solved any and all problems I had. I recommend it; it will rejuvenate, revitalize, and reinvigorate your skin.

I Thought I Knew Italian Food

…and then I fell in love with Madeo!  This Beverly Hills hot spot has the best Italian food in the city. It’s a little pricey, but it’s classy elegant and extremely yummy. Pairing spinach ravioli with a nice wine makes for an amazing evening. Plus, the paparazzi camp outside because there’s always someone famous there. Last time, I saw Michelle Rodriguez and Jennifer Tilly. However, I really think the paparazzi were camped outside for me haha.

MAC Attack

I love MAC makeup so much! Every time, I go to one of their stores I leave about $100 poorer. They have the best skin creams as well. I’m able to go there and get the perfect dose of rejuvenation with just the right mix of aesthetically appropriate mascarars, blush, lipstick, gloss, and more. I feel like I’ve been MAC attacked and I love it.
